Staithes Holiday

Image

Our first visit to Staithes was a quite enjoyable one! Staithes is a seaside village just north of Whitby. Our family enjoyed this quaint seaside with fabulous opportunities for rock pooling, eating fresh fish, and crabbing. Staithes has cute shops where we purchased some lovely jam, chocolate, and of course ice cream! I ate the BEST gluten free battered haddock I have ever tasted! Yum!

Relaxing seaside despite the rapid winds!

Hermit crab!

The large crabs were hiding, but Titus and Ryan found small ones!

Young Captain James Cook was an assistant sea merchant here in 1745…here in Staithes he developed his love of the sea!

Staithes is also famous for the CBBC telly program Old Jacks Boat.

Ryan and I remember our children enjoying this telly program when we first moved here seven years ago! How time flies!

We enjoyed crabbing as the sun came out! Unfortunately, Titus didn’t catch any…we plan to use bacon for bait next time. The crabs weren’t as fond of the white fish, but the seagulls were!

We returned to Filey, where our hired cottage was, and the kids re-enacted the same photo from two years ago! 😉

We plan to visit Staithes and Filey again! I highly recommend a seaside holiday, if you live in England, as it is most affordable and entertaining for adults as well as kids. ☺️

Flamborough Holiday

Image

Flamborough Head is one of our favourite seaside locations! Despite the brisk winds, we braved the cliff side walk to shelter on north beach. It was worth it for rock-pooling, shell hunting, and cavern exploring!

Mollusk we found rock-pooling!

South beach Flamborough

We discovered a cave!

Titus and Daddy enjoyed re-directing water flow and had a go at damn building.

Enjoying the Lord’s majestic ocean and listening to the calming waves.

I love lighthouses!

For lunch we ate at one of my favourite restaurants overlooking the Flamborough beach. Ryan had the Yorkshire roast, kids ate fish cakes, and I had a tasty fish pie!

After lunch we drove to Bridlington to warm up at the penny arcades.

We tried our hand at ski ball horse racing and many of us won!

As the tide came in at Bridlington, occasionally we were met with sea spray!

Filey Holiday

Image

We began this term break holiday with a visit to Filey. We like coming here because it is the quaint seaside, but also because of our lovely friends who graciously allow us to use their cottage.

Before lunch we enjoyed the seaside and collected shells, rocks, and rubbish in the sun! Titus and Cora are passionate about saving the sea life by collecting all the plastic waste left by humans.

For lunch we enjoyed fish and chips at a local café where we had not eaten in before. The kids have now graduated to eating pensioners size portions!

After lunch we popped in and out of Filey shops and, out of necessity, purchased Cora some new wellies and wellie socks (since she has grown). Ryan and the kids enjoyed penny arcades whilst I enjoyed keeping warm at a local café.

So thankful we are for the sunny seaside we were able to enjoy before the cold wind and clouds moved in.
We stopped by the local farm shop before tea and the kids enjoyed saying hello to the cows.

Flooding in Kirkstall

Image

Yesterday and today there is MAJOR flooding in Kirkstall (Leeds, England) where we live! Titus’s rugby pitch is under water; I’m not sure he will be practising this week! This pitch is also where the Rhinos practise rugby.

Many of you have visited us and we have taken you to Sunday Roast at our local Kirkstall Bridge Pub (click the link for photos). The banks of the River Aire have flooded the outdoor area and cellar of this pub…the fence has been eroded away!

To watch a video of our area, click here.

Kirkstall Abbey has flooding and the train tracks at Kirkstall Forge are flooded. Please pray for everyone affected in Leeds and across England.🙏🏻
